Victor Hugo, the man who backed important causes
The idea to bring this exhibition to Pasaia came about in 2002, the year in which Pasaia sponsored a number of activities to mark the bicentenary of Victor Hugo's birth. It is shown intermittently and is a permanent online exhibit.

The exhibition looks at the causes that Victor Hugo defended throughout his lifetime. The more we learned about the man, the more necessary the exhibition became. It reveals the greatness and humanity of Victor Hugo, who without a doubt and in his own right, was one of the great figures in history.
Ideals in their purest form appear before us, ideals such as universal peace, equality between men and women, the right to education, the abolition of capital punishment, the defence of cultural heritage... This is an exhibit of hope and a reminder that many of these ideals have yet to be achieved.
Victor Hugo's words, literature and intense political activity - indeed his very life - demonstrated his struggle to denounce injustice and to protect human rights inherent in all people but so often denied.
Victor Hugo guides us, with the example of his own life, through some of humanity's greatest causes.
